Authentic Coiffures

The nineteen twenties are remembered for the creation of the "bob".
While being a radical deviation from the acceptable coiffures
of the day, its creation marked the first time that short hair
on women became, by the end of the decade, socially acceptable.
The "bob", adopted by young flappers, represented to the woman
of the twenties sexual empowerment and a step toward self determination.
While most women were not adeventurous enough part
with their long locks, many women eased into the transition
by cutting just the hair at the sides of their heads into a bob
and leaving the tresses in the back long but tucked into neat buns
at the back of the head.
Waves were still a popular method of adding interest to a hair style.
The creation of the permanent wave aided in the setting of marcel
and finger waves. However, the twenties curls and waves were more frizzy
than the sleek waves adopted in the thirties.
