This perfectly Art Deco 1930s knit set is named "Hazel". It is a ubiquitous representation of early to mid-thirties design. Hazel is an exact reproduction from a vintage crochet knit set that is part of the Owner/Designer, Annamarie von Firley's, extensive collection of fine vintage clothing.
Hazel's long slim skirt creates a visual elongation of the silhouette that was all of the rage in its day. The top is loose fitting and cinched in at the waist with a long belt. This top has a long line that hits at the hip creating the illusion of a peplum.
One of the hallmarks that indicate that the silhouette is from the earlier part of the 30s is the loose fitting top. Transitioning from the 20s where the waist is not defined to the 30s where the bias cut defines all aspects of the body, Hazel has a foot in both worlds. The slim clinging skirt indicates the movement to more body revealing silhouettes where the loose fitting top shows that the designer was not yet ready to define the bust area. Hazel also has a kicky draped collar and three-quarter sleeves with 1 inch band.
Hazel's fabric is a multi-colored loose weaved zigzag rayon knit. Due to the open weave nature of the fabric, Hazel will need to be worn with a slip that is sold separately.
